Motorcycles experience a loss of power due to a lack of compression (valve channel)

This phenomenon is common in poorly maintained vehicles, where thick carbon deposits cause valve clearance to become uneven. You might notice the engine suddenly stalling while driving; pressing the starter button produces a very faint grinding sound, but the engine won't start.

This is a slightly more serious mechanical issue requiring a skilled mechanic to adjust the valve clearance. The cost for this is usually not too high unless the cylinder head needs to be disassembled to re-grind the valves.

Many people confuse a motorcycle's loss of power with a slipping clutch. When the clutch is worn, the engine revs loudly when you accelerate, but the bike doesn't immediately surge forward; instead, it slows down slightly. With scooters, this problem is often caused by dirt accumulating on the clutch bell or a stretched drive belt.
