The residual voltage tester is designed according IEC60601-1:1988 clause 15 and IEC60335-1:2016 clause 22.5. The equipment has a high enough test impedance, it uses the method of simulating the disconnection of the plug to disconnect the appliance from the supply mains at the instant of voltage peak. It is used for the residual voltage test of electrical appliance like medical equipment and household appliances.
Working principle
The appliance is supplied at rated voltage, any switch is then placed in the off position and the appliance is disconnected from the supply mains at the instant of voltage peak, 1s after disconnection, the voltage between the pins of the plug is measured with an instrument that does not appreciably affect the value to be measured, the voltage shall not exceed 34V as per IEC60335-1/60V as per IEC60601-1.
